This privacy policy explains how Moon Shard Ltd ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your data when you use the Munchr iOS application. This policy applies specifically to Munchr. For our studio website, see the Moon Shard website privacy policy.
Munchr is developed and published by Moon Shard Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Registered address: Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London. Contact: hello@moonshard.co.
Pantry and fridge data. When you add items to your fridge or pantry (manually, by scanning a receipt, or by photographing your cupboard), this data is stored on your device and synced to our servers to power recipe recommendations. We store ingredient names, quantities, and estimated expiry dates. We do not store receipt images or cupboard photos after processing.
Recipe data. Recipes you save, import, favourite, or mark as cooked are stored to personalise your experience. Imported recipes include the source URL and extracted content.
Usage data. We collect anonymised, aggregated usage data to improve the app: feature usage, recipe completion rates, and performance metrics. This data cannot identify you personally.
Subscription data. If you subscribe to Munchr Premium, payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive a subscription status confirmation from Apple.
Camera access. Munchr requests camera access for receipt and cupboard scanning. Photos are processed to extract ingredient information and are not stored, uploaded, or shared beyond this purpose. Camera access is optional.
We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number unless you contact us directly. We do not use advertising identifiers. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
Recipe recommendations. Your pantry contents power recipe suggestions. This is the core function of the app.
Recipe extraction. When you paste a URL, we process the linked content to extract the recipe. We store the extracted recipe in your cookbook. We do not access your social media accounts or any content beyond the specific URL you provide.
App improvement. Anonymised usage data helps us understand what works and what needs refinement.
Munchr uses machine learning for receipt scanning, cupboard recognition, recipe extraction, and recommendations. Where processing can happen on-device, it does. Some features require server-side processing. In all cases, data is limited to the specific task and is not used for any other purpose.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Servers are located in the European Economic Area (EEA).
If you use Munchr outside the EEA or UK, your data may be transferred to servers in the EEA. All transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
Your data is retained for as long as you use the app. If you delete the app or request deletion, your data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated data may be retained indefinitely.
Apple (App Store, StoreKit). Handles subscription payments and manages subscription status. Apple's privacy policy applies.
We do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or social media tracking SDKs.
Munchr is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from children under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), UK GDPR, or EU GDPR. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data.
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to: access your data; rectify inaccurate data; erase your data; port your data to another service; object to processing; restrict processing; and withdraw consent at any time.

Legal basis for processing. Legitimate interest (app functionality), contract performance (delivering the service), and consent (camera access, optional features).
California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing." We do not sell or share your personal information. We do not use your data for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Other US states. Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and other states with privacy laws have similar rights. We honour these requests regardless of state. Contact hello@moonshard.co.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Under PIPEDA, you have rights to access and correct your personal information. We collect, use, and disclose information only for purposes identified in this policy. Contact hello@moonshard.co.
Munchr does not track you across third-party websites or services.
Munchr does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use the IDFA. You will not see an App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is no tracking to request permission for.
Material changes will be communicated through the app or on this page.
